Ingredients
Oats: rolled oats are best for this recipe.
Plain flour: is best in this recipe. You can also use all-purpose flour. It's important to use flour that does not have any rising agents as we will be adding our own in the right amounts.
Desiccated Coconut: is finely grated coconut, commonly used in baking. The fine texture helps mix into the slice.
Brown sugar: also called light brown sugar, helps to give this slice some caramel notes. You could use dark brown sugar for some extra caramel notes.
Golden Syrup: add flavor and sweetness to this slice and helps keep them soft, chewy and delicious.
Butter: I used unsalted butter in this recipe.
Baking soda: also known as bicarbonate soda or bicarb. This is NOT the same as baking powder and you can not substitute this.

To serve this Anzac oat slice put them onto a plate and enjoy! Delicious with a cuppa on Anzac Day of course or any other day of the year!
How to store
Much like the biscuits, this Anzac-flavored slice will store well at room temperature for at least two weeks. But honestly they are lucky to last two days in our house, let alone two weeks 😀
They can be wrapped and stored in an airtight container for up to two months.
Tips for success and frequently asked questions
My slice is too hard
This can happen if it's over-baked. For a perfect chewy texture bake until golden brown and just starting to darken around the edges.
Can I make regular Anzac biscuits with this recipe?
Yes you can. Simply line a baking try and roll the biscuits into balls and space out on the baking tray. You will need to decrease the cooking time. Try ten minutes, check and bake for a little longer if needed.
